The 66th Honinbo title challenge match has been started. The current title holder is Yamashita Keigo 9P, and the challenger is Hane Naoki 9P.
In the first round of the best of seven series, Yamashita Keigo defeated Hane Naoki by 7.5 points.
Hane Naoki had held the Honinbo title for two years, 2008 and 2009. Then he lost it to Yamashita Keigo by 4-1 last year. Now he is trying to get back the title he had from Yamashita.
Honinbo is one of the biggest tournaments in Japan. After preliminary, 8 finalists have a league for a title challenger. The main time is 5 hours for the finals and 8 hours for the title challenge matches with 10 periods of 60 seconds for the overtime.
