The 2022 Gangwon-do World Artificial Intelligence Go Competition will be held online from the 18th to the 20th.
The competition, in which 19 teams from five countries, including host South Korea, China, Japan, Australia and France, applied, will kick off with the preliminary round on the 18th.
Eleven teams, the largest number in China, expressed their intention to play, with four teams from Japan, two teams from host South Korea, and one each from France and Australia.
The tournament will select eight teams to advance to the finals through the third round of the Swiss League, with the quarterfinals and semifinals of the finals on the 19th and the finals of the best two wins out of three rounds on the 20th. Major finals, including the final, will be broadcast live on Go TV and Cyber Oro.
The prize money is 20 million won, the runner-up will be 10 million won, and the joint third place will be 5 million won.
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Artificial Intelligence Go Competition in Gangwon-do will be held at the Grand Ballroom on the first floor of the Yongpyeong Resort Dragon Valley Hotel in Pyeongchang-gun from 1 p.m. on the 18th.
The opening ceremony will be attended by Korea Baduk Association President Lim Chae-jung, Gangwon Governor Choi Moon-soon, Pyeongchang Governor Han Wang-ki, Gangwon Go Association President Lim Kyu-sun, Pyeongchang-gun Go Association President Shin Hyun-koo, and referee Kim Sung-rae.
After the opening ceremony, on the sidelines of the online preliminary round, a club Go event will be held in which Gangwon-do residents participate.
The 2022 World Artificial Intelligence Go Competition in Gangwon-do is jointly sponsored by Gangwon-do and Pyeongchang-gun, and is hosted and organized by the Korea Baduk Association.
