The 6th Ilyo News Cup National Children¢®?s Baduk Tournamen
The 6th Ilyo News Cup National Children's Tournament was held in May 3rd at Seoul SK Olympic Handball Arena, and children who dream of being the ¢®¢çFuture Lee Sedol' participated.
This year, Girls Group has been added to the previous year's competition groups making the total number of groups to 18, including Best Group, Dan Group, High Group, Middle Group, Beginners Group, and General Group. 1,250 children Baduk players and 2,000 parents visited the venue.
On the tournament day, distinguished guests visited to celebrate the opening ceremony. Some of the guests were Shin Sang-chul, president of Ilyo News, Choi Jong-jun, vice president of Korea Amateur Baduk Association, Kang Jun-yeol, president of Korea Elementary Baduk Federation, Kim Jong-taek, president of Seoul Baduk Association, Kim Won-yang, president of Korea Junior and High School Baduk Federation.
"We celebrate the 6th year of Ilyo News Cup Childrens' Baduk Tournament this year. A 1st grader who participated in the first edition would have become a 6th grader by now. I thank all the children who came this year," Shin, Sang-chul, the president of Ilyo News continued. "Baduk helps improving the ability to concentrate and imagination, and one can learn good manners while playing it. I hope all the players will do their best and earn good results."
In addition to the games, side events such as face painting, family pair games, and other various events were held to add fun. Every participant received gift set including a t-shirts, books, snacks and drinks. Lucky draw was held which gave away prizes to 100 pariticipants as well.
As a result of the tournament, Yoo Chang-ju(Jungwon Elementary, 6th grade) became the champion for the Best Group while Choi Kyung-seo(Muhak Elementary, 3rd grade) won the Dan Group. Choi Eun-kyu was the runner-up for the Best Group and Jeong Jun-woo(Jangki Elementary, 3rd grade) was the runner-up for the Dan Group. For these four winners, prize money have been awarded as well as a place in the upcoming 6th Asia Students Baduk League.
The 6th Ilyo News National Children's Baduk Tournament was hosted by Ilyo News, organized by Korea Amateur Baduk Association and Korea Elementary Baduk Federation, and sponsored by Korea Sports Promotion Foundation.
