The final game 4 of the 22nd Chinese Mingren Title was held on Jan. 7th, Gu Li 9p (B) defeated Gu Lingyi 5p by 1.5 points after 311 moves and successfully defended his title by 3:1, this is also Gu Li's 6th consecutive Mingren Title. It is also Gu Li's 33rd Title.
In the 22nd Chinese Mingren title best-of-5 final, Gu Li 9p lost the game 1 but he won the games 2, 3 and 4 consecutively, breaking Gu Lingyi 5p's spirit.
As he defended the Mingren Title, Gu Li 9p smiled and said "I think I am comparatively lucky in the Mingren title matches. I won a losing game over Pao Wen Yao at the last time. In this game, there was also a hopeless moment but I was lucky to win as Gu Lingyi fortunately made a small endgame mistake. I won the international baduk championships three times in the first half of the last year but my records in the second half were not very good. I feel good because it ended well as I defended the Mingren Title. I will play even better in 2010."
As defeated, Gu Lingyi 5p said "there were a lot of differences between me and my opponent in terms of skills and experiences. I hope I can make it to the finals again."
After taking the 17th Mingren Title from Qui Jun 8p, Gu Li 9p won his 6th consecutive Mingren Title. His opponents were Qui Jun 8p (3:0), Yu Bin 9p (3:0), Zhou He Yang 9p (3:0), Ding Wei 9p (3:0), Pao Wen Yao (3:2) and Gu Lingyi (3:1) and each challenger in each title match was different from one another.
Gu Li 9p played 37 best-of-many-games series in total and he is called ¢®¢çthe king of best-of-many-games series' with his records of 30 victories and 7 defeats. He has not done very well in the second half of the last year but as he defended the Mingren Title, it appears that he will recover from a slump.
The Mingren title is sponsored by People's Daily and 3 hours and 60 seconds overtime counting for 5 times are given to each player. The champion and runner-up prize are 100,000 Yuan and 50,000 Yuan respectively. The Longest Winning Record Was Set by Ma Xiao Chun 9p, Winning his 13th Consecutive Mingren Title (the 2nd to 14th).
