His 2nd Consecutive Sipdan Title!
In the decisive game 3 of the 5th Wonik Cup Sibdan Title best-of-3 final held in Baduk TV Studio of Korea Baduk Association on Jan. 10th, Park Junghwan 5p (W) defeated Lee Changho 9p by half point after 324 moves and won the title by 2-1.
It was a game in which Park Junghwan demonstrated his coolness and calmness. It is said ¢®¢çbecause Lee Changho 9p reads and double-checks a move does not mean he is actually going to make one,' whereas Park Junghwan 5p showed a baduk game in which ¢®¢çhe choked a fish by constantly netting it and letting it go.'
Pointing out the obvious place, Yoo Changhyuk 9p, the Baduk TV commentator, said "I can't understand why he doesn't go and capture white. If he loses, the cause of the defeat will be him continuously holding back" but Park Junghwan 5p composedly chose to conclude the game by counting. And he made victory by half point out of it. It was by the difference of one Pae threat.
"I played with an attitude of a student and it seemed to produce good results. The game was not favorable for me but Lee Changho 9p made a mistake¢®|. I was lucky." (Park Junghwan said.)
After the game, Park Junghwan expressed his impression that he was lucky. However, it was not by luck at all. He made a lot of preparation and efforts. The more the situation on the board fluctuated, the calmer Park Junghwan 5p got. Yoo Changhyuk 9p kept saying "he's amazing considering his age. How can he be so calm as that¢®|. It must not be very easy because it is a big match. Park Junghwan 5p is playing very well."
The game ended at about 10:50 pm and it was made sure that he won his 2nd consecutive Sibdan title.
Lee Changho 9p said "I couldn't find out who won until the last moment. I felt like I was losing by more points¢®|. The losses during the endgame were serious. But his face looked rather relieved than uncomfortable.
In turn, Park Junghwan 5p won his 2nd consecutive Sibdan title. He wins the champion prize of 50 million Won and also will be advanced to 7p (if a player wins one of the Korean top 3 titles in Korea, they will be advanced 2 dan higher.)
