European Pair Go Championship - May 28-29
The European Pair Go Championship has been a regular event, hosted by a different country each year, since 1997. This year the championship will reach its record degree of the southern latitude. Here in Istanbul the spring time is warm and beautiful – like the people – and the nights are bright.
Being divided by the Bosphorus, which connects the Sea of Marmara to the Black Sea, Istanbul is the only bi-continental city on the World. With a growing population of over 13 million residents, Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey and the 5th largest city by population in the world. Being the transition point of the "Eastern and Western Worlds" of the Silk Road and serving 4 empires as capital city, Istanbul is laden with remains of civilizations past. Thus a city full of contrasts (traditional/ modernist, antique/modern, extravagant/modest, proud/humble) and colors the city serves up a plethora of nuances with its museums, churches, palaces, mosques, bazaars and natural wonders. We strongly urge you to steal a few days off of your curriculum and set aside time to explore this marvel while you are already here for the tournament. When you lean back at the coast of the Bosphorous viewing the hues and shades of green, and the reflection of the setting sun render the opposite coast ablaze, the feeling of being "at the center of the world" will accompany a faint enlightenment to the reasons that drove people to settle in this extraordinary place or even go as far as to wage war over it.
You are cordially invited and more than welcome to join us in the 14th European Pair Go Championship which will take place in the city where continents meet: Istanbul, Turkey on the 28th and 29th of May 2011.
