The challenger, Choi Chulhan 9P took the Kuksu title from Lee Changho 9P.

Choi defeated Lee by resignation after 98 moves in the fourth round of the 54th Kuksu and won the best of five title match 3:1.

This is the third Kuksu title Choi holds. He won the 47th, 48th Kuksu, and this one. Choi lost the 48th Kuksu to Lee 5 years ago and finally took it back from Lee.

Choi is at his best. Last month he won the 15th Chunwon and played excellent in the 12th Nongshim. Currently he is holding 4 titles.

Lee Changho lost the game he was desperate to win. Recently his results were bad, so this title was the only one he had. It is the first time for Lee to not to have a title since 1989, the year he held the first title. People say that he is past his prime.

The 54th Kuksu is sponsored by a publishing company, Dong-A Ilbo. The winner prize is 45,000,000 KRW (approx. 40,500 USD). Each player is given 3 hours and 5 periods of 1 minute for the overtime.
