Rui¢®?s 6th Consecutive Myungin, the Reign of Rui Continues
The game, that would determine Cho Hyeyeon 8p's coming back on her five after knocking four times or Rui 9p's 6th consecutive title, culminated in the empress Rui 9p's win. In the last game 3 of the 11th STX Cup Women's Myungin title final held in SKY Baduk TV station on Feb. 8th, the title holder Rui Naiwei 9p (B) defeated Cho Hyeyeon 8p by resignation after 179 moves and won her 6th consecutive Myungin title by the total score of 2:1.
In the last game, as a result of determining the colors for each player according to the tournament rules, Rui 9p took black and the game began. Rui 9p had mentioned that she used to prefer black when she had power but now she felt the same no matter whether to take black or white. As game their chi-fighting continued from the beginning and went into the middle game, Rui 9p made a key move attacking the white group in the battle on the upper side but while black's attack became loose, white broke through very well so the game became a little bit more comfortable for black to play.
During the battle in the middle game, black took a wrong direction and at this time the black group was attacked to ruin black's influence and the leadership on the board seemed to be taken over by white. But then, while white made a mistake, black attacked the white group again changing the flow of the game favorable to black once again. As black's attack was a little too much and the white group came to live, the gap between black and white became minute. As white held back on the exchange of W162 for black's response, white's life became uncertain and black's cut at B151 became sharp and severe. Finally, Cho Hyeyeon 8p resigned after 179 moves.
Being scholarly go players, Rui 9p and Cho Hyeyeon 8p reviewed the game for more than an hour after the game and exchanged opinions.
As Rui 9p won the final on this day, she has accomplished her 6th consecutive win (8 times in her career) and the 5 wins out of the 6 wins were taken against Cho Hyeyeon 8p. Failing to come back on her five after knocking four times, Cho Hyeyeon 8p ended up having to wait for one more year.
