The Spring Baduk Camp was held in Montbovon, a peaceful village surrounded by mountains and a lake. About 15 people came and enjoyed the Baduk Camp for 3 nights and 4 days. Every day the participants had league games or simultaneous games with me. Afterwards I gave them reviews and hold lectures. It could sound like a hard training, but it was a camp with full of events, so the participants would not only study Baduk but enjoy Baduk.
Besides a life & death problem contest, we had a Baduk knowledge contest. Some said that Rick from Lausanne would win this contest since he is called ¢®¢çRickidepia' and knows a lot of patterns. However, it was not about Baduk skills, but about culture, history and current issues. The winner was a young guy, Sylvain! We had such a nice time to talk about Baduk culture together.
Another event was to challenge me with 2 handicap on a 13*13 board. It was a team event, and 2 among 4 teams won against me. Discussion helps the players to find a new way of thinking. So they made a better game than their strength. I hope they use this experience, thinking in various ways, in their games.
There were also fun events like Alggaki. I am maybe a 7 Dan in Baduk, but I am a 9 Dan pro in Alggaki! So I was sure that I would win. However, there was another talented Alggaki player, named Thibault! He could play amazingly just with his intuition. He won the Alggaki league and challenged me. It was a big match! When he pushed 3 of my stones out of the board in just one shot, I thought that he could win the game. Fortunately, I have more Alggaki experience and could save the Alggaki title by winning 2-1. I guess next time, maybe Thibault can defeat me. So I have to practice!
Even though it was April, it snowed for a few days, which was surprising. Like the last camp most of the time we stayed in the hotel. But we had a lot of fun such as playing Ping pong, table soccer, and eating Korean food made by my wife, Semi Lee, and it was very delicious. The camp has been made twice in this place, but I am sure that many of us are already looking forward to the 3rd time!
