Who will be the future French champion?
The French Youth Go Championship for the primary section was held on the 1st - 2nd of June in primary school Bizanet in Grenoble. The finalists were selected from the regional preliminary.
The strongest player, Issac Scribe from club Aubenas, won the championship as expected. The runner-up was Tudaul Durand from club Montpellier, and the third place went to Noa Andre from club Cachan.
The winner Issac Scribe was already famous for his excellent result in the preliminary league. He played in not U-11 but U-18, and the 10 years old boy, Issac Scribe, got the second there!
The rising star gets online lessons from Fan Hui and Motoki Noguchi, the official French Baduk instructors under the French Go Federation's support. The FGF selects 30 youth players by a competition and educationally support them for the future. That made me understand how FGF cares about the youth Baduk.
In-seong Hwang joined the championship and gave a good time to the children. He played a simultaneous game with all the players, and played a teaching game with the winner, Issac Scribe to give him some advices. In-seong Hwang plans to stay in Grenoble for many years teaching Baduk to young children with the cooperation of the Grenoble people, Jose Olivares and Dominique Cornuejols. Both of them teach Baduk in the venue of championship, Bizanet and other places.
The championship was used to be held in Paris with other youth sections and adults, but this year, there were half of the finalists who live around Grenoble, so it was held in Grenoble for the first time by Dominique Cornuejols's suggestion. Dominique Cornuejols has put a lot of efforts into Baduk with her husband through various activities such as teaching Baduk to youth and organizing tournaments. In 2012, she took children to Paris with a minibus to the championship, and she thought it is a better way to hold it in a closer place, Grenoble, for the more players.
Even though Grenoble is quite far away from the north part of France compared to Paris, a big family came to Grenoble from Normandi traveling about 800km. The family brought two girls, Léopoldine and Aliénor, and cheered them up all the time. The little girl was just 5 years old, but the she loved the championship. She took pictures with her pink camera, and sometimes she shared her pictures of her opponent while playing the game. She is definitely the cutest Baduk player and photographer in the world!
Unlike other tournaments, the children played soccer and basketball in the ground between rounds. It was a festival for children! I believe that this championship gave a good memory to them.
