Training for SWA Youth Interest Group - Mi-kyeong 8P
The Training for SWA Youth Interest Group was started in March and was ended in April 2011. The class was scheduled on every Sunday, from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, for 8 weeks. The participants were mainly the key SWA players, with strength level ranging from armature 1 DAN to 5 DAN. Some of them have already been teachers of Baduk for few years and some are interested to be Baduk teachers in future. The class was conducted mainly with game review of selected online games of the participants. There were always interesting discussion and good exchange of idea for best moves during the game review. Many questions, such as new joseki of opening and new moves invented in international tournaments, were being asked during the class. I could feel strong passion and great enthusiasm among the group, about Baduk. It is my pleasure to be able to help them to grow their skill and to simulate their interest and passion of Baduk. This was the class that I enjoyed the most as it gave me strong sense of satisfaction in teaching Baduk. I am glad that I am able to help them to further promote Baduk in Singapore, with my teaching. At the end of lesson, we often go for a drink to continue our discussion, not only about Baduk but also about other general topics, such as culture of Singapore, Korea or many other topics of interest. The Singapore General Election, that was scheduled to be held on 7 May, had naturally became a hot topic of our after-class chatting. Our friendship has also been enhanced with good understanding about Singapore, Korea and individuals. It is also my pleasure to know that the group has decided to have their 2nd class in July 2011.
The very first Baduk Tournament, between Singapore and Hochi Ming, on WBADUK, was held on 23rd April 2011. There were five players nominated from both countries. The players were matched by their skill level starting from the strongest players at both sides. It was a tough fight between the two teams. Singapore won the tournament by 3:2. Although it was an online event that we were not able to meet physically, I could sense the enthusiasm that was being inspired between both countries via the online chatting on WBADUK. Through the tournament, the players of both countries had a better understanding of the strength of the other team. Positive feedback was received from both countries after the tournament. Generally, we all think that it was a good platform for friendship building and skill improvement among the players. Another tournament between Singapore and Hanoi was scheduled on 7 May 2011. I look forward to have more similar tournaments to be organized between more countries, in promoting Baduk and building friendship, via the WBADUK as the platform. Let's all work hard to meet the vision and mission¢®|.Cheer!
