Tournament of Berlin [Go to Innovation] - Eun-keun Oh 6D
There opened the tournament of "Go to Innovation" in Berlin between 19 ~ 21th of November. About 70 players participated from many European countries.
I also went to the tournament and it was conducted by 8 rounds.
I especially like this tournament, so I try to participate at it every two times a year. It is normally very well organized, has a nice restaurant, the building is modern and very quiet, and above all has a very interesting sistem of ranking which is called "Hahn sistem" invented by a Korean professor Sang Dae Hahn 6d .
The points are not counted by the winning number but by the winning points of each game. For example, if one wins by more than 40 points, he gets 100 points, and his opponent has 0 point. And if one wins by 4.5 points, he gets 64 points, and his opponent gets 36 points. The sum of a winner and a loser of one game always makes 100 points. So a player with six victories and 2 defeats could be the champion instead of a player with 8 victories and 0 defeat. So every players want to win as more as posible, and naturally those games become very aggressive. How interesting it is !
The prizes are very big and diverse. The winner gets 1,000 euros, the second 500 euros, the third 250 euros and until the 20th player they can receive some money prizes. And many of the rest get baduk(go) books.
After 8 rounds a Korean Inseong Hwang 7d won the champion, another Korean Seokbin Cho 7d won the second prize, and I won the third.
It is one of the charms of this tournament that they can drink draft beer for free from the second day.
I am already looking forward to the next "Go to Innovation" which will open in Berlin in the next March.^^
