Visiting Sweden Leksand - Ju-yeon Ko 8p
I was invited to come to the Leksand Individual and Team Tournament by Martin Stiassny while I was at the European Go Congress. He asked me to come enjoy the famous views, and perhaps give a lecture as well. I had to buy the cheapest possible plane tickets, so the journey took all day. I flew from Budapest to Prague, and then from Prague to Stockholm. I took a three hour train from Stockholm to Leksand. Needless to say I was exhausted, Martin met me at the train station and took me out for some pizza. I ate an entire pizza full of yummy toppings. When I got to my accommodation I met some Dutch players playing a drinking game version of Baduk, I was too tired to join, so after a short introduction I went to sleep.
The next day was the last round of the Individual Tournament. It was a pretty easy going day. I met with Kang Kyoungnang 7d and Alex 4D after her loss in the last round to Illya Shikshin and we went out to dinner together. I was glad to be able to speak Korean with them in Sweden.
I started the third day with a 2 hour lecture about the mini Chinese opening. I used the recent book "Report" which features the thoughts of many young professionals on various baduk topics. I felt that I could study while teaching. I also borrowed some of Lee Young gu tesuji problems. I was very happy with the amount of enthusiasm that the Baduk players showed. A Serbian player, Laza 5d, was very interested in the Korean style of opening; I had met him three times once in Croatia, once in Finland.
There was a barbeque party on the second to last day. I want to mention and thank Rob Van Zeijst 7d for some great conversations and advice about life. Other than nice conversations, the food was really tasty as well. I am a vegetarian, but at the time I could not resist.
I couldn't watch the last round of the team tornament, but I heard that the Netherlands team won. After the tournament I stayed Martin's house for a day. It was like a house in the forest, everything was very green. There were lots of berries and mushrooms growing around. Everything was very beautiful. I am now a little bit tired of traveling so much and I am happy to be back in Budapest.
