Spreading Baduk in America - Myung-wan Kim 9p
Hello my name is Myung Wan Kim, 9p pro from Korea.
This is the first time to write an article in Wbaduk so, let me introduce me and what I am doing to spread baduk in America.
I became a professional when I was 16. It was also 16 years ago. So I have lived half of my life as a professional baduk player. In the first stage of my baduk career, as a pro, I thought nothing but winning games. I thought winning games is what every professional is supposed to do and all they can do. It was around 27 years old that I realized I could do something else, spreading baduk to western society. That seemed to be as meaningful as winning tournament.
I've always thought baduk is my destiny, something I can't take off from me. I may run away from it but eventually it will stick to me. I also need to admit that I get a lot of benefit by learning baduk and becoming a pro. If baduk is my destiny and the best present I've ever got, I definitely want to do something good and meaningful to it. I guess this is the main reason why I decided to spread baduk in America.
I came to LA in June 2006. Since then I've been teaching baduk in local baduk clubs in group and in private. I also do workshop occasionally in all over the US. My next workshop will be held in Portland Oregon in November (if you are interested in participating, you can contact to Portland Go Culb).
I don't teach online other than giving some simultaneous games in Wbaduk. I believe in face to face teaching. I think offline teaching is much more efficient than online teaching when it comes to improving strength. However, I realized now that online teaching could be much more efficient for those who can't come to see me. I may teach online in near future. So you can see me even if you don't live in LA or come to my workshop.
Next time I will tell more about myself and my friends here.
