April in Singapore - Mi-kyeong Jo 8P
Singapore is a country near the equator so it often rains and it is very humid.
I have a dream and that is to go overseas to spread Baduk. During the end of last year, Singapore Go Association requested an instructor from Korea Baduk Association. And I was chosen. I came to Singapore in March. The first impression was good for me.
Organization is better than I thought. Singapore Go started from world amateur championship in Japan in 1981. At that time there was no system to choose players, so 39 Baduk players determined to make a Baduk association in Singapore. Dr Chan Gin Horbe became the leader to lead the meeting.
There are two Baduk club houses. One is in Bishan the other is in Bugis. The Taiwan Ing foundation supports the Bugis club houses and government sponsor the club houses in Bishan. Most of my classes are conducted in Bishan.
I also teach in local primary school, High school, and Secondary school as CCA activity during weekday. I teach high kyu and dan adult players at night during weekday. I have 6 classes on weekend which range from beginners to dan players.
There are around 10,000 people who can play Baduk. 500 people join competition a year. There are 300 active members in Singapore Go association with 15 committee members. They often have meeting and discussion. When they discuss something, I could feel their passion in Baduk.
